My Story

Background & Career

Guyanese by birth, background and at heart; but life in London, Cardiff and Oxford means that Britain is pretty close to my heart as well.

Fun fact about Oxford? I shared an MBA class (Negotiation) with Cameron Winklevoss, one of the twins who wrestled Mark Zuckerberg for control of Facebook. Graduated with an EMBA, after serving jointly as Class Rep (President).

Started in media in Guyana as a radio broadcaster. Became Editor-in-Chief of GBC radio, and later head of news for Guyana Television, in early 90s. Joined BBC World Service’s Caribbean Service in London, and moved to world news as a presenter of news, business, technology, current affairs, science and sports.

At the BBC I covered Haiti’s gang warfare, the 2007 launch of Apple iPhone in San Francisco, the 2006 football World Cup in Germany, the 2008 Democratic primary and elections, and much more. Presenter at launch of BBC’s Business Matters, writer for Wisden, columnist for the UK’s The Guardian, Caribbean analyst for BBC World TV, cricket commentator for the iconic Test Match Special. Written about travel for London Evening Standard.

Delivered journalism training in varied markets – Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Antigua and Barbuda, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Jamaica and Anguilla. Delivered business consultancy services in markets as varied as South Africa, London, Lagos and Hong Kong.

Moved to T&T to take up the post of Editor-on-Chief of Trinidad & Tobago Guardian. I write a weekly column for Trinidad & Tobago’s Daily Express.
